  • Hey Tiffany,

Good to see that you are still keeping busy. Although I was kind of bummed to see the “resourceful student” site at Chaffey wasn’t up anymore. Anyways if you are having trouble remembering me, we met while you were an assistant for Dale in microbiology. We never hung out or anything but I remember you were pretty bad ass when it came to Biology. Anyhow I just wanted to drop a line and say you were among a few people that really helped me realize how much I enjoy biology.

I am still at Chaffey, taking a lot of classes to transfer into a biology major. Top be honest I am getting my ass kicked, but at the same time I never felt so good about what I was doing. I’m actually little confused about the way things are going, I got an “A” in almost every nursing course I’ve taken, yet I never felt like it was right for me. On the other hand I feel completely at home in Biology yet I am working my ass off and getting assignments handed back to me that range between A and D, it was a high D but man did it hurt. Ironically I am so enthusiastic about the classes I take many other students are under the impression that I’m some super star. It makes me really hesitate to tell them the truth when they ask what my grades are. I can see from your blog that you having your own difficulties but if you have any words of encouragement I would greatly appreciate them.

    Thanks Again,
    Elliott

    Elliott,

KEEP AT IT. Chaffey is amazing, and I miss it a lot. As long as you still have the drive, and as long as you’re at Chaffey, I stay you need to continue. A lot of students were under the same misconceived impression when I was at Chaffey. The truth is, you’re only gonna be as good as your worst teacher.

Dale was DEFINITELY one of my very favorites at Chaffey. I miss him, and several of the other professors at Chaffey desperately. Especially Robin Ikeda. If you’re majoring in Bio over there, you’ll meet her eventually if you haven’t already. She is one of the most amazing humans I’ve ever had the pleasure of spending an inordinate amount of time with.

As for your grades – I’ll tell you a secret. My first course in Biology, Dale gave me a D. DON’T LET IT STOP YOU. Allow it to inspire you to dig in, and change the way you approach that class, whichever one it is. When I left Chaffey, I was given a scholarship for excellence in Microbiology, which should tell you how pissed off that “D” grade made me. ;) Dale and I often joked about it in the few years after I took that class. It was what lit a fire under my ass about wanting to do well there, and it’s what got me to see how wonderful biology was, and could be.

You’re going to be fine. I promise. If you need any encouragement, or any help moving on in the future, please feel free to stop by my blog. I’ve been extremely busy lately, and haven’t had a chance to be here as often as I’d like, but I will always respond to my former teachlings (you and alllllll the others), and if I can be of any assistance now or in the future, just let me know how, and I’ll do my best to help you. :)
